5 Things I Look Forward to in 2021 — Greta Beccarello
I saw a video recently, where the comedian has a moment after finding an old goal lists she had written in 2019, with resolutions and changes she wanted to make in 2020. Reality unfolded very differently, and 2020 turned out to be a hurricane of events, emotions and changes. And I don’t know about you, but I am so looking forward to 2021 and to a fresh start, and I am already thinking and planning the projects, the ideas and the actions I want to take on with the new year.
That’s the one thing I’ve learnt since working for myself, that I don’t have anyone else doing that for me, so I am 200% accountable for it all.
Are you going to write a resolution list this year?
Personally, yes, but I’d do this my way regardless, I love writing them on a daily-weekly-monthly basis, it helps me focus, it helps me to prioritise my work, my being, and setting boundaries. And it helps me to check-in with myself too. A practice I’ve picked up from yoga and meditation, and from past experience.
If you are a list lover, and a visual person, I encourage you to try it, even if you don’t go anywhere with them, when you’ll pick the list up in 6-months time or in 1-year time, you’ll be able to look back and see what changed, what didn’t and take it from there. Change comes in small steps. But if you don’t make the first step, nothing will ever move forward.
So here’s a list of some of the things I’m looking forward to, a mix of personal and professional.
- I look forward to continuing this project. When I re-launched as a freelancer, I launched the start of a journey. I have big plans for myself, I want to create a sustainable business that will actually provide work opportunities for other creatives (freelancers, small business owners, younger talent .. who knows?!) and I want to constantly give back, too.
It’s all a work-in-progress, but I can’t wait to look back at the first year of the business plan (still a little wait) and learn from it! - I look forward to spending a weekend off somewhere that isn’t my flat. I won’t pretend I don’t miss travelling, but I’m definitely not as stressed out as some people are. Being able to work from home is a luxury, but I can’t wait to hide somewhere and not having to do anything, no phone, no laptop for a full weekend.
- I look forward to taking more action when it comes to being more conscious over my spending and my consuming. The work I have done on myself thus far it’s only the start, but I’ve made it a personal goal to only shop sustainable, local, independent, purpose products and services, and to be as conscious as possible about my own footprint into the world.
- I look forward to re-connecting with some good old friends, making more time for others, hearing them out and helping them out, too, where possible. 2020 has been very introspective, very personal and intimate, so I want 2021 to be more outwards, projecting all the good positive energies to help others.
- And finally, I look forward to investing more time in my personal self-development, my favourite memories of 2020 are all the hours I’ve spent and invested in learning new skills, researching, reading, going out of my comfort-zone (have done this a lot recently!). I never want to stop dreaming and learning!
Who knows, it might be that midway through next year some of these won’t be relevant anymore, but there is only way way to find out!
I’d love to know if you have made a list yourself, if you’d like to share it and if you have any recommendations! I’d happily include your suggestions to this post. Once again, thank you for reading me!
